2025 Bmw X7 M60i – Luxury Suv – Like the 7 Series pickup, the X7 has an unusual split headlight design that signals its position near the top of BMW’s lineup. Indeed, the X7 features many premium features of the vehicle and luxury features, all wrapped in a large three-row SUV format. Available in six or seven transmissions, the X7 was introduced in 2019 and received a major facelift in 2023.
No changes were made to the 2025 X7. BMW’s behemoth was last updated in 2023, when it received new styling, an improved powertrain, and a new infotainment system among other changes.

It’s a little hard to believe that the BMW X7 is actually a full-size three-row SUV. From behind the wheel, it feels like a smaller car, with the precision and stability that are its BMW hallmarks. Both of your engine options are great, with the base I-6 providing such performance that upgrading to a V-8 isn’t necessary. Braking performance is also comparable to BMW’s dedicated sports cars.

Inside the cabin, materials, quality, and features make the X7 slightly higher than its starting price. Although we wish there were more physical buttons for basic functions like climate control, the new BMW infotainment system is straightforward and responsive. Additionally, it’s annoying that BMW charges extra for the driver assistance features that mainstream automakers include as standard equipment on cheaper cars, but these features work well.
What doesn’t work well on the X7 is its third row. Space is small, and getting into it is frustrating: the second-row seats are slow to fold, and access to the far seats is tight. Folding the second-row seats manually isn’t fun, but it’s quick to the third row, making the X7 more capable as a three-row SUV.
If fun and performance are more important than space and utility in a three-row SUV, the X7 is a great choice. If you need a seven passenger on a regular basis, one of your competitors may suit your needs.
Both engines offered for the X7 are paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and standard AWD.
Bmw X7: Building On The Flagship Suv!
The base engine choice is the xDrive40i, a turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six that gives us 375 horsepower and 383 horsepower. In testing, the X7 with this engine accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Fuel economy isn’t terrible considering the size and performance, coming in at 20/24 mpg city/highway.
In the X7 M60i, a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 cranks out 523 horsepower and 553 lb.-ft. The 0-60 mph time is about 4.2 seconds. Fuel economy is up to 16/20 mpg, which makes up for the extra performance.
Performance is a prerequisite for any M car, and the X7 is too big and heavy looking to earn that badge (there is an XM, though, for a reason). So even if the X7M doesn’t make it and it probably won’t, BMW still has an option for drivers looking for the ultimate three-row SUV. The XB7 is by BMW’s Alpina
The engine reverses the balance of sport and fun on the M track style. The same twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 found in the Alpina XB7 X7 M60i is used, but outputs 631 horsepower and 640 lb-ft. According to what we experienced in the older, more powerful 2021 Alpina XB7, hitting 60-mph may be less than 4.0 seconds in the new version, but surprisingly, despite the added performance, the M60i takes the fuel economy rating 16/20 mpg. . The Alpina XB7 is not as sporty as an M SUV like the X5 M or X6 M, but it is more comfortable as a daily driver, and less powerful.

The X7 has many useful standard driver assistance and active safety features. It gets automatic high beams, automatic front emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning. Opt for the $2,500 Driver Assistance Professional package, which gets lane departure assist, cruise control, lane change assist and a hands-free highway driving system.
Every X7 is equipped with a dual-screen dashboard. In front of the driver is a 12.3-inch configurable digital gauge cluster. Next to it is a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive 8 user interface, which includes augmented reality navigation and intelligent voice commands. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. In addition to two USB-C ports in each row of seats, there is a wireless charging pad in the front row. The top models have a head-up display. Audio systems are available with 10, 16 or 20 speakers.
Given how powerful the X7 xDrive40i’s I-6 is, we see little reason to upgrade from the base model to the M60i’s V-8-powered version. Additionally, the xDrive40i features all the same features and options as the M60i, with the exception of a few subtle design details such as quad exhaust tips. At around $85,000, the 2025 BMW X7 xDrive40i isn’t cheap, but the M60i version is at least $26,000 more.
